A 36-month renewal agreement effective from June 30, 2013 to June 29, 2016, settled in June 2012 at the bargaining stage. Duration of negotiations - 15 months.
Note: As provided for by the Status of the Artist Act, the terms of this scale agreement are minimum terms and conditions for the provision of services and related matters. These minimum terms and conditions form the basis of negotiations for individual contracts between playwrights and theaters. The agreement also includes standard contracts–stock contract, commission contract and premiere contract–between playwrights and theaters and provisions concerning copyright, royalties, warranties, indemnities and rights, security for payment, administration fees, and deductions for union dues.
Rates and conditions
10% or 12% is the minimum agreed royalty for Premiere and commission contracts.
Guarantee
Is the minimum nonrefundable payment that must be made to Playwright, the guaranteed minimum is based on the potential royalties as projected by the theater in accordance with current expectation and experience at the theaters venue and will not be less than $2000. For premiere and commission contracts, 10% of gross box office receipts with a minimum exclusive period of 52 weeks [unchanged]
Pension Plan
Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP): For each contract, theatres will contribute a minimum of $150 or 3% of the fees and/or royalties, whichever is greater, to a group RRSP. A matching amount will be deducted from the playwrights fees and/or royalties. The maximum contribution by each party will be $450 per contract, for a total maximum contribution of 6% or $900 [unchanged].
Fees for Theatre for Young Audiences
Effective June 30, 2013, the agreed fee per school or flat fee performance will be $60.00 [$45.00]; June 30, 2014; $62.50; June 30, 2015; 67.50.
Workshops and Readings
A playwright will receive a minimum fee of 60 [$50] when it is agreed by the parties that the playwright will attend a workshop or reading for half a day; $100 [$80] for a full day.
