Pension Plan

Defined benefits plan [new addition]: The retirement plan will be modified so that employees hired after the ratification of the collective agreement no longer participate in the existing defined benefits pension plan. The employer will establish a registered defined benefits plan to which employees may contribute 5.0% of their salary, and the employer will contribute 6.0%.

Basic pension: Effective March 2014, the basic monthly pension will be $71.00 [$70.00] per month per year of pensionable service. It climbs to $72.00 in March 2015, and $75.00 in March 2016.

Special early retirement program: From March 1, 2014 [July 1, 2011] and August 1, 2014 [December 31, 2012] employees from 58 to 65 years of age with 10 years of continuous service or more are eligible for the early retirement program. Employees who opt for this program will be entitled to an additional benefit of $740 [$720] per month in addition to the basic pension. Furthermore, employees who retire under this program receive a lump sum equivalent to one week of salary per year of service up to a maximum of 20 weeks, and $3,000 to offset health care costs [unchanged].

Savings Plan
